Plant History and Care

The cultivar for the Jean Taylor Fuchsia was registered in 2008 with the American Fuchsia Society who hold the world registration of fuchsia cultivars. The parents are Cliantha + Rachel Sinton. The Jean Taylor Fuchsia has double medium/large sized flowers, the sepals are rose and red and the corolla is lavender blue with rose flecks. It has neat light green foliage with red veins. It has a long flowering season. The semi-trailing habit makes it an ideal plant ideal for hanging baskets, container growing, both inside and outdoors.

Roy Sinton who bred this cultivar has been a professional grower for seventy years. He started his own nursery business in 1963 and has had a lifelong love of fuchsias. He started a breeding programme some thirty years ago to improve the range of commercial cultivars being grown.

Some of his most successful cultivars are now grown throughout Europe. They include: Adrienne, Blaze Away, Claudia, Natasha Sinton, Patio Princess, Sir Matt Busby, Star Wars. Nice ‘n’ Easy, Pattie Sue, Purple Patch, Patricia Hodge, Turkish Delight and many more.

For best results with the Jean Taylor Fuchsia nip out the growing points two or three times after three leaves have developed in order to create a well structured plant. Remove the seed pods after the flowers have dropped. Liquid feed on a regular basis using a weak solution twice a week rather than at full strength once a week. Never feed if the roots are dry. This Fuchsia prefers some shade or dappled light if possible.
